Last month I completed development work on NewOrleans.com, the site for the city of New Orleans. This was a massive rework of a legacy site, some parts of which had been around for many, many years. The new deployment’s core is the CMS. Supporting are phpAdsNew for banner ads, Gallery2 for photos, and Simple Machines Forums.

This is a nifty little package I put together using a CSV parser to grind through plane performance data and a slick -based charting package. It allows players of the MMOG “Aces High” to compare their favorite fighter planes in a variety of categories.

I built this during the glory days of dot-com start-ups. As evidenced by the bottom falling out of the market, a lot of people had no clue what they were doing or getting into.

This design, while somewhat dark, is also kind of whimsical. Background music by Pink Floyd, coupled with images from the Titanic, Scott’s trip to the Antartic, and Guadalcanal represent the contrast between the perception and reality of getting a high-tech start-up to fly.
